April Showers Challenge at FCCB

This weeks challenge over at Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog is April showers; create a project with an umbrella or hat on it.

There are several cartridges with umbrella cuts and even more with hat cuts. Being that it is April, rainy season, I decided to go with an umbrella cut from the Hello Kitty Greeting cart. I don't use this cartridge very much, not sure why since there are so many cute images on it.
It is hard to see in the photo, but I added glossy accents to her coat so it looks more like those vinyl raincoats.

Please hop over to FCCB to see all the Design Team projects and link up a project of your own. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Here's how I did it...
Card is a standard A2 size
All papers are from my scraps stash
Hello Kitty and layers cut at 4.5" from Hello Kitty Greetings p. 54
EK border punch
Sentiment from Pink by Design Spring has Sprung stamp set
Creative Memories flower punch and hand cut flower stem with a glitter brad for the flower center
Glossy Accents for rain coat
Stickles and doodles with my gel pen

Frosted Designs Show Me Sundays Post - Special Easter Eggs!

Each Sunday over at Frosted Designs, the Design Team takes turns posting for the Show me Sundays tutorial posts. Today is my turn.

For this weeks Show me Sundays, I thought I would continue with the Frosted Designs Friday Challenge theme from last week which was recycle/reuse. You can click here to see my project.

So using a Chinese take-out box leftover from Wednesday nights dinner, and some scraps of fabric, I put together a this cute Easter treat basket with eggs.
I know you all know how to make a basket from a take-out box. Cut off the flaps, add some ribbon, and a die cut of a bunny face and your done.
This bunny face was cut using the Create-a-Critter Cricut cartridge.
I also cut  2” ovals for the bunny feet.

Now, what I want to share with you today is how I made the
pretty Easter eggs in the basket.
I made literally hundreds of these when I was quite young with my
Mom for friends and family.
They make great gifts for kids filled with treats or small coins.

The basic supplies are a basic water based glue, plastic Easter eggs, scraps of pastel fabrics, rick rack, and decorative trim or ribbon.

Using a hand cut paper pattern in the shape of a flower petal, cut 6 petals from each of two coordinating fabrics.

I like to use plastic eggs that are similar in color to my fabrics I am using.
The plastic egg I used had a small hinge keeping the two halves together.
If yours does too, just cut that part off.
You may have some of these around the house from the last Easter season. So this is a good way to recycle them.

Starting with the large half of the egg, cover it with glue and then add six of the fabric pieces, alternating the fabrics. Be sure to smooth the pieces flat.

Don’t worry if they do not match exactly since the seams will be covered later.

Trim excess fabric even with the bottom edge.

Repeat the process with the other half of the egg.

Trim excess with the inside edge of the egg so when the parts are put together everything matches.

Cover seems on smaller egg half with rick rack.

Place another piece of rick rack around edge.

For the large half of the egg glue decorative trim or ribbon around bottom edge of egg.

Add rick rack to cover seems and add a final piece of rick rack around egg just above the ribbon to cover edges.

You can do the same with the small plastic eggs, just cut the petal pattern a bit smaller.

Here are a few eggs I have done over the years.

I usually have them in a decorative basket on my dining room table during
the spring season.

Hope you will try them and create your own special bunny basket.

Girl Power - Guest Designer!

Hey everyone! I am the guest designer today over at Our Creative Corner.
The challenge this week is Girl Power and we are to include a hand made paper flower, ribbon and some bling. I pulled out the Once Upon a Princess cart and came up with this card. It is a BIG card, 5x7. I love the sentiment because it is fitting for a Birthday card, Graduation card, or any special moment in any girls life.
The hard part for me was to come up with a creative way to make a handmade flower other than just cutting it with my Cricut. So I found this great video and ended up making about 6 of them. Super Simple. Like in the video, I added stickles around the edges of the flower for more sparkle.
Hope you hop over to Our Creative Corner and join in on the challenge this week. I would love to see what type of flowers and bling you use.

Here's how I did it....
All paper is scraps from my stash
Girl/layers cut at 5" from Once Upon a Princess, p.26 & 37
Divine swirls cuttle bug folder for hair texture
face stamped with Peachy Keen Happy Lashes Stamp set
Ribbon from my stash
Brads and bling with my I-rock for belt and necklace
Sentiment from My creative time Polka Dot Surprise stamp set
Chalk and doodles with my gel pen

Food Fare Friday - Apples

I have decided to Start an official post at least one Friday a Month called Food Fare Friday. I am working on a way for you all to participate as well, so watch for that in the next couple of months.

As you can see at the top of the blog, I have a link called Food Fare. This is where you will find all the Food Fare posts past and present. If at anytime, you want a readable version of the recipe, just send me a note. I love to share recipes. All Food Fare pages are 8x8.

I had this recipe in my recipe cupboard for a while. It was a photo copy with no name, so I am not sure where I got it from.I don't remember having tried it and have never made it. I decided to tray it at a scrap retreat in January. It's always fun to try new recipes with friends. It was really easy and you probably have the ingredients you already have in your pantry. I hope you give it a try and let me know if you like it.

Here's how I did it...
Apple paper/red paper from Creative Imaginations
All other paper from my scrap stash
