Turtles and Ice Cream!

If you are not aware- I have been traveling the last few days and am in Cancun. The temperatures are very warm and we have had some rain, but the afternoon sun has been perfect for laying by the pool and on the beach. Even did some snorkling this morning.

But, the coolest thing of the trip was when the bellman told us of a turtle release earlier tonight right on the hotel beach. So, we took a detour from our dinner route to the beach.

Two turtle nests had hatched late this afternoon near the hotel beach resulting in about 300 baby sea turtles.

You can see the babies in one of two boxes of turtles brought  to the beach to release.
The hotel staff then let us hold the babies and place them on the beach so they could walk into the ocean.

Not every day you get to release sea turtles into the ocean. The sad part is that  maybe 10% of these baby turtles, if lucky, will survive to be an adult turtle.

The hotel told us there are about another 2000 eggs yet to hatch!

Now the night could not get any better unless it involved fondue and ice cream. Yup, your reading right. After dinner my husband and I splurged at a Hagen Daas  ice cream shop. They had what they call ice cream fondue.

Look at this desert- so yummy.
Those are 16 mini ice cream balls in 4 flavors on the left, and apples, cookies, bananas and brownies on the right with strawberry sauce and warm milk chocolate for dipping. Oh my!!!

So sad when vacations end but you take home great memories like these.
I just had to share this with you all.

Have a great night!
