A Big Birthday Card

We have a few folks in our cruise group that have birthdays this week or close to it. So that meant I needed to work ahead to have cards in my suitcase for them.

Boy- do you find it hard to do a creative card for an adult guy. Little boys are not problem with all the cute little boy things out there. But when you are talking a senior guy, what do you do? All guys like trucks, am I right?

So I searched out a pick up truck using the Cricut Search site. The one I found I liked best was on the Just Because Cards cartridge. It's kinda old fashioned and would works perfectly with the paper I had found. I also got inspiration for the layout of the card from Monique who posted a set of cards over at Everyday Cricut when she was filling in for a week. You can see the post here.
This is my first try at a "Big" card, meaning finished size of 5x7. I've seen many other designers use this size, but for some reason, 5x7 sounded really big. Well, when I cut the paper and folded it, I realized it's the normal size of a greeting card in the store. I kinda like this "Big" card size.

I found a little phrase on line and typed it on my computer in a font that would match closely to the inside sentiment which is from My Pink Stamper.

I love how the colors worked together, I just hope he likes it and laughs at the cover phrase.

Here's how I did it....
Gold and Blue paper is Bazzill
Beige Paisley paper is Lasting Impressions
Pattern paper and stripe paper is K&Company
Base of card cut at 10"x7" folded to finished size of 5"x7"
Blue panel cut 4.75" x 6.75"
Striped paper cut 4.25x3.5"
Blue pattern paper cut 3" x 4.25"
Sentiment printed from my computer and trimmed to 3.75" x 1.75"
Truck/layers cut at 4.34" from Just Because Cards, p.42
Sentiment inside card from My Pink Stamper Everyday Sentiments stamp set
Brads for sentiment on front
Ribbon from my stash
Doodles with my gel pen
